Kohala Elementary holds spelling bee
Kohala Elementary School 3rd-, 4th- and 5th-graders participated in the school’s first spelling bee. Using words from the Scripps National Spelling Bee word list and Webster’s Dictionary, pronouncer Charlie P. Gooch, Jr. led the students in the fun, but challenging, exercise that helps students improve spelling skills, learn new words and develop correct English usage. Judges were North Kohala librarian Janet Lam, retired KHS teacher Christopher Lee Brown and KES volunteer Kay Aldrich.
